Description :
Over 30,000 people gathered from villages neighboring Leer town, hoping desperately to receive food assistance. These communities have lost their coping mechanisms (access to their crops, their cattle etc.) Food insecurity, hunger and despair are a reflection of the reality for people in Southern Unity and their reliance on food assistance is a matter of survival. Some have walked up to 3 days to ensure they make it on time for the distribution and are spending the night in Leer town, setting up temporary camp, while waiting to get their share. Every person, including children, is registered, provided with a token and is attributed 4kg of sorghum and 4kg of beans.
