Caption :
South Kivu province, Shabunda territory. The ICRC distributes seeds, agricultural supplies and household items to families affected by fightings. Some families walked for hours to arrive at the distribution point. They had to cross the Ezzeza bridge, which was about to fall down, weakened by the rain. The ICRC and the Red Cross Society of the Democratic Republic of the Congo collaborated to repair the bridge and allow beneficiaries to cross it.

Description :
Conveying the supplies required big logistical means: three airplanes a day during two weeks to carry 50 tons of seeds and essential household items. Then, 40 “soukoumeurs” (bike pushers) carried the supplies to the distribution points in Lolo and Ntuku.
In total, 1969 families received seeds of peanut, rice, cabbage, amaranth, tomato and onion.

Le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge leur a remis des semences et des outils dont elles ont besoin pour relancer la production agricole. Des articles ménagers ont également fait partie de cette assistance humanitaire acheminée par avion et par vélo dans cette zone difficile d'accès par route. »
