Description : ICRC website article, 12.10.2016: “Jordan: Somali refugee restores contact with her mother in Yemen. "Have patience my daughter. We must meet one day." With these words, Sa'adeya comforted her daughter, Iqra'a, when she spoke to her on the phone for the first time, with the help of the ICRC in Jordan, after she lost contact with her two years ago.
Iqra'a Mohammed Ali, 20 years, got separated from her mother and three siblings in 2008 when she came to Jordan along with her grandmother, brother and sister from Somalia. The last contact between Iqra'a and her mother was in early 2015, when she called to inform them that she is in Yemen.
"Since that day, we lost track of her. We didn't know if she was dead or alive. After that, I submitted a request to the ICRC in Amman to help me search for my mother."
"A week ago, we received a call from a tracing officer at the ICRC delegation in Amman informing us that my mother is in Kharaz camp in Yemen, and that they have her phone number. I couldn't believe it. My legs were shaking. But when I went with my grandmother to the office and the tracing officer dialled the number, I was relieved. Once I heard my mother's tender voice, I wanted time to stop and live in this moment forever. In hearing her voice, I found solace."
"But what broke my heart was hearing that she needed an urgent surgery."
Now after I have found her, I will not lose her again. Only God knows how much I miss her. Are we destined to meet again?
Iqra'a has a pending claim to be resettled in a third country, and can return to the ICRC office anytime to phone her mother in Yemen. Until now, her mother is still waiting to have surgery to remove a gall bladder.”
