Description : He says: "Sometimes I buy wood, or I pick it from the ground, my son helps me most of the time. (...) Most of the clothes I wear at home are three sweaters and one pair of trousers. Our house is cold because most of the windows are destroyed and I have covered them with nylon to prevent something from getting inside, but the night is cold.... so cold."
Harasta is a city known for its agriculture located in the governorate of Rural Damascus. Since the heavy fighting started in 2012, almost the entire population has been affected.
The area was under siege for more than five years and suffered constant air attacks for 33 days, just before reconciliation in May 2018. Harasta was the first site in eastern Ghouta to be visited by ICRC teams after three months of attempts.
Accessibility to the town has improved slightly with the opening of the main transport route, which is secured by a checkpoint and reserved for civilians.
