Description :
Following a series of discussions between the ICRC Healthcare in Detention (HCD) team and the Health Directorate of the Afghanistan Office of the Prisons Administration (OPA) with the Ministry of Public Health's Prison Health Department (MoPH), the health screening campaign was launched at the Kabul Female Prison and Detention Center.
This one-time event was dedicated to the International Woman’s day and focused on the maternal & child health of the detained women and their accompanied children.
The health screening revealed the basic health needs of the prison population, both among adults and children, as well as the main gaps in the provision of medical services. Consequently, the outcomes of the screening suggest building a link between the health staff of the women’s prison and the medical institutions of the Ministry of Public Health to improve the access of detained people to quality healthcare services.
