Description : In late March, an ICRC team was in Paletwa and Samee Townships in Chin State to provide assistance, where thousands have been displaced due to the armed conflict since 2019.
While humanitarian access to reach communities remains a challenge, with the facilitation of all sides, our team stayed with the communities for 8 days supporting over 1,000 families.
“We traveled from Sittwe by boat and car to get to where we need to,” said Ko Wai Thein who led the ICRC team. The team provided hygiene kits and delivered materials to build latrines to prevent diarrhea and waterborne disease. Additionally, and due to the ongoing threat of landmines and other explosive devices, our team educated people on these dangers through the “Risk Awareness and Safer Behavior programme” in both townships.
“Some of the families have returned to their villages of origin and some remain at their displacement camps. The humanitarian consequences of the armed conflict remain high, and we hope to come back soon” added Ko Wai Thein.
In Chin State, like in many communities throughout Myanmar, we continue our efforts to provide assistance and protection to the most vulnerable communities affected by armed conflicts.
