Description :
Sa'adatu has worked at the centre since 2017. She educates patients on basic health and nutrition practices that can help them to prevent malnutrition and other associated illnesses.
"This job is intense. We witness a lot of pain and suffering. Sometimes I am so overwhelmed I have to leave the patients to go somewhere private to cry. The needs are so great that sometimes the staff have to contribute from our own personal resources to support some of our patients. This job can take a toll on you but we do it for the sake of humanity.
One experience that will stay with me is the story of a woman who travelled a long distance by boat and car to get here. She brought her fourth child to be treated for malnutrition. While here, she told me that she had three children prior and all three had died from malnutrition. She was so happy that the fourth one would live. She also acknowledged that the knowledge she had gained here would have saved her first three children. She later had a fifth child that is also doing well."
