Description :
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has assisted displaced people in the district of Macomia, Cabo Delgado, with basic household items. The kits consist of tarpaulins, mats, blankets, kitchen equipment, buckets, mosquito nets and bars of soap. The kits were delivered to more than 3,900 people who moved from other villages in the Macomia district, such as Xai, Litamanda, Mucojo, Quiterajo, Congresso, Nova Zambezia, Pangane and Guludo, fleeing the conflict in their areas of origin. The aid will help the families to start their lives anew and, in the short term, improve their living conditions and provide the minimum necessary for hygiene and dignity, as well as improving the conditions for adequate shelter.
Together with volunteers from the Mozambique Red Cross, assistance was provided in the displacement centres of Nanga A, Nanga B, Xinavane and Changane. The distribution was carried out in two phases, in August and September, and was based on a rapid assessment of the needs of the IDPs in the collective and resettlement centres in Macomia Sede, where the assessment focused on existing vulnerabilities, humanitarian needs and the response gaps of other organisations to determine the need for ICRC intervention.
