Description :
The ICRC joined the Minister of Justice of Tajikistan, the Ambassadors of the United States and United Kingdom, the Swiss Foundation for Mine Action, and other partners to commemorate the International Day for Mine Awareness at the invitation of the Tajikistan National Mine Action Center.
At the event, the ICRC renewed its call for a global ban on anti-personnel mines and for the full implementation of the Mine Ban Convention. It also urged more countries — including Tajikistan — to join the Convention on Cluster Munitions, given the devastating impact of these weapons.
In Tajikistan, the ICRC supports orthopedic care, first aid, and Mine Risk Education (MRE), working with 38 Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan (RCST) volunteers. In 2024 alone, MRE activities have reached nearly 30,000 people, including over 16,000 schoolchildren.
