Description :
The first course takes place on the campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar in February 2023. This program brings together twenty participants, including pathologists, police officers, odontologists, and NFSU students – among them former and current ICHF students – from India, Bhutan, the Maldives, and Tanzania. They are learning how to apply archaeological theories and methods to locate and investigate unmarked burial sites. Over two and a half days, several experts – including the three members of the ICRC forensic team, ICHF faculty members, and Professor Sharada Visweswara Channarayapatna from IIT – lead lectures and practical workshops. The topics covered include archaeological theory and methods, taphonomy (the study of decomposition), human dentition, and exhumation techniques.
