Description :
On September 27, 2025, the Kharkiv National Medical University (KhNMU) University Hospital inaugurated a state-of-the-art Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O) Laboratory, marking a major milestone in physical rehabilitation services in eastern Ukraine. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Liashko, Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine Denys Uliutin, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov, Mayor of Kharkiv city Ihor Terekhov, as well as the ICRC’s Head of Delegation in Ukraine Juan Pedro Schaerer.
Developed through a partnership between the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and KhNMU, the facility offers integrated care, including prosthetic and orthotic manufacturing, physical therapy, and mental health support, all under one roof.
The initiative builds on a temporary mobile rehabilitation program launched by the ICRC in July 2024 and represents a significant step forward in addressing the growing need for rehabilitation services due to ongoing hostilities in the region.
