"The visit of ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric to Iran is part of a series of meetings organized in the region, as well as the ongoing dialogue between the ICRC and Iranian authorities. These bilateral discussions reflect the ICRC's direct engagement with all states to strengthen respect for the rules of war.
During this visit, Ms. Mirjana Spoljaric held talks with senior government officials and representatives of the Iranian Red Crescent to address the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing hostilities in Iran and the region. She also reaffirmed the importance of international humanitarian law in protecting civilians and essential infrastructure during times of conflict.
The President also discussed practical measures to enable the ICRC to deliver more aid to support relief activities, particularly those carried out by the Iranian Red Crescent, which is at the forefront of the humanitarian response.
In mid-April, the ICRC had delivered over 170 tons of essential relief items to assist people affected by the conflict. Additional shipments of medical supplies and forensic equipment were expected to arrive in the following days."
