Description : Part of the exhibition illustrating water.

On 22 November 2006, the first plenary meeting of the ICRC Corporate Support Group was hosted by Swiss Re at the Swiss Re Centre for Global Dialogue. An afternoon session for 29 experts representing the corporate partners was followed in the evening by a networking event for members of the board of the ICRC's Corporate Support Group Board Members, the ICRC's Executive Board, and the Board of the Foundation for the ICRC.

The afternoon session was based on an ICRC case study entitled "Operating in a Challenging Environment." Under the guidance of executives from the ICRC, the experts took part in a number of multidisciplinary workshops. They discussed a hypothetical emergency in which a massive displacement of population is caused by armed conflict. They took into account overall operational management, security, human resources, information and logistics. The participants expressed their appreciation for this opportunity to exchange experiences and to learn more about their specific areas of interest.

The evening session was hosted by Peter Forstmoser, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swiss Re. In his address the President of the ICRC, Jakob Kellenberger, presented the highlights of the year for the ICRC. After making his acknowledgements, he gave a brief report on ICRC staff training. This was followed by a discussion in which representatives of the corporate partners had an opportunity to pursue ideas developed during the case-study exercise and to assess their partnership with the ICRC in more general terms. After the meeting ended, and before dinner, Mr Kellenberger led the assembled group through an exhibition set up specially for the plenary meeting. The six-part exhibition illustrated the history and development of the ICRC.
