Celebrating Women's Day in the West Bank.
On the occasion of International Women's Day, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) organized a number of activities to support Palestinian women living under harsh conditions, especially those most affected by the armed conflict.
In the West Bank, and in close cooperation with the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), the ICRC organized workshops in marginalized rural areas, by providing training on health and domestic issues, such as first aid and health awareness. In addition to the ICRC's initiatives, the Palestinian Civil Defense Department coordinated training on domestic issues. These activities were conducted in Bethlehem, Jericho, Tubas and Nablus.
The Palestinian Civil Defense Department trained 35 women from the village, located 20 km north of Jericho City in the Jordan Valley, to deal with domestic hazards, such as fighting fire at home.
The population, mainly Bedouins, is isolated from other Palestinian villages as it is surrounded by Israeli settlements, and accessing medical services is difficult.
