Description : Typhoon Haiyan, which swept the centre of the Philippines on 8 November, caused unprecedented devastation and hardship: thousands of people were killed and hundreds went missing. Infrastructure was heavily damaged. The ICRC is supporting the Philippine Red Cross in its emergency humanitarian response.

The typhoon brought winds of up to 300 km per hour, damaged crops and thousands of homes, mainly on Samar and Leyte in the Eastern Visayas.
