Description :
In Pir Sabaq, the massive flooding ruined many people's houses and possessions, destroyed a foot bridge that crossed the nearby Kabul river, and tore away sections of a road. The Kabul and Swat rivers join together close to the village and then flow into the river Indus. The swollen rivers engulfed trees, destroyed public buildings and badly damaged the only medical facility, a government-run Basic Health Unit.
The PRCS team has visited Pir Sabaq three times since the floods began. Before that, the village was completely cut off by the floods. The mobile clinic is supported by the German Red Cross. The ICRC supports another PRCS mobile clinic as well as four Basic Health Units, two of which are situated in heavily affected flood-stricken areas.
Each PRCS mobile medical team has two doctors, one male and one female health promoter, one medical technician and a driver. The mobile teams' workload in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has increased significantly since the start of the devastating rains.
"Almost every patient I see has diarrhoea and skin infections" says team leader Dr Hamid-ur-Rehman.
