Worldwide, the ICRC works closely with detaining authorities including Malaysian Prison Department to help address the humanitarian needs of detainees, supporting the authorities’ efforts to ensure that the conditions and treatment of people held in detention meet national and international standards. Working with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society and other national societies in the worldwide Family Links Network, the ICRC makes it possible for detainees to re-establish contact with their families.
