Description : ICRC website, photo gallery "ICRC evacuates 22 patients as fighting continues in South Sudan", 14 July 2017

"“I remember when we evacuated this patient. He had a gunshot in his left leg and we struggled to stabilize him for the evacuation. Finally, we were able to take him to Maiwut and I am happy to see that he is here in Old Fangak. He looks a lot better”, Nazzia Mirza, an ICRC surgeon said.
Intensified fighting near Maiwut forced the ICRC to evacuate all staff and patients from Maiwut town and hospital.
Due to heavy rain, the flight could not land in Maiwut and the staff and patients had to move by road to Pagak, a border town to Ethiopia. From there, the evacuation continued by air to Old Fangak.
Twenty-two patients in need of surgical follow up were evacuated to Old Fangak"

The ICRC has evacuated all staff and patients from Maiwut town and hospital. The first priority of the ICRC was to ensure that the patients who had been admitted to our hospital in Maiwut continued to receive the medical treatment and surgical interventions they need. For their protection and continuum of care, the ICRC thus relocated 22 patients with need of surgical follow-up to our mobile surgical team in Old Fangak. All patients were evacuated by air from Maiwut to Old Fangak and are now receiving treatment in Old Fanga
