Description : Setting up a new field base and a mobile surgical team requires a lot of equipment. Everything, from showers to latrines, office equipment, medicine and tents for the patients, need to be brought from Juba.
Ganyiel is ICRC new field base established in August 2017. The main activity of the base is the deployment of a mobile surgical team who started working in September 2017. Following changes in the front lines in the Upper Nile, the ICRC had to evacuate from fixed health facilities in first Kodok and later Maiwut. A temporary mobile surgical team was set up in Old Fangak in July and August 2017. Both patients and staff were moved to Ganyiel once the set up of the new field base was ready. The field base in Ganyiel can host up to 18 staff membersl. All staff sleeps in tents or traditional houses. There is no phone connectivity in Ganyiel, but a generator provides internet and electricity a few hours a day.
