This widow, mother of seven children, has received a financial assistance from the ICRC which allowed her to buy a sewing machine and selling traditional cosmetics. Her husband was killed when an armed group attacked their village. She fled to Maiduguri, where she settled at the internally displaced persons camp. Without an assistance and an income generating activity, she was unable to feed her children.

Description :
Hundreds of vulnerable households live in Bakassi internally displaced persons camp, located in Nigeria’s North-East largest city of Maiduguri in Borno state, benefit from ICRC’s cash for livelihood program for female-headed households. Through this program, the ICRC grant up to 100 vulnerable IDPs households with initial cash grant to support them to improve their income by starting up a livelihood activity through which they earn income to meet their minimum consumer basket in the long run. In addition, they also receive monthly cash assistance during 5 months to allow them to cover at least 50% of minimum food needs.
