Description :
Despite the overall cessation of hostilities between the warring parties, injuries caused by armed violence between armed youth in different parts of the country remains high. Most of these injuries are gunshot wounds, which underscores the deadly consequences of firearms being so easily available in the country. Women and children continue to represent almost a quarter of the patients who came into our supported facilities with injuries from weapons. The ICRC supports 22 primary health care centers and one hospital and their staff to provide health care at community level across the country. The Covid-19 pandemic is a crisis on top of an already fragile humanitarian situation in South Sudan. In February 2021, there has been a 94 per cent increase in confirmed positive cases of Covid-19 and a 35 per cent increase in deaths caused by the novel coronavirus.
