Caption : Daraya. An ICRC staff member discusses with a beneficiary. The latter, a 42-year-old carpenter and father of five, fled the city and the conflict in 2011. When he returned a few years later, he found the city destroyed. Today, the ICRC supports him through its micro-economic initiative programme to help him rebuild his life.

Description : In 2016, Daraya was at the heart of fierce combats, which resulted in the destruction on 70% of the city's infrasctructures. In 2019, residents who fled the combats started returning to the city and tried to rebuild their lives despite the enourmous difficulties posed by destructions, lack of access to drinking water and weapon contamination in certain areas. In 2021, almost 50,000 people live in Daraya.
