Description : "I was reborn at the Myitkyina Physical Rehabilitation Center. I can do what I want to now. My new prosthetic leg is now being fitted’’, this man says with a big smile.

He lives in Momauk Township, Kachin State where there are still active conflicts. "I went to the mountains that day looking for bamboo shoots. I had no idea that I would step on a landmine’’, he recalls.

The loss of a limb brings a lot of challenges, not only physical but also mental.

Since 2011, communities in Kachin State have been living with the impacts of conflict. Among other things, the ICRC helps those affected by landmines to participate fully in society.

The physical rehabilitation centre provides access to rehabilitation services for all communities, playing an important role in ensuring that people with physical disabilities can live in dignity. The ICRC also promotes socio-economic inclusion by providing vocational training, promoting sports and supporting service users to set up small businesses.
