Description : The ICRC plays a vital role in reuniting families separated by conflicts, natural disasters, or forced displacement, such as those affecting refugees from the DRC and Burundi. These individuals, fleeing violence and instability, find refuge in places like the Nakivale camp in Uganda, one of Africa's oldest refugee camps, established in 1958.
In collaboration with the Uganda Red Cross, the ICRC operates connectivity centers in Nakivale, enabling refugees to use phones and the internet to reconnect with their loved ones. These efforts are part of the "Restoring Family Links" (RFL) program, which also helps locate missing persons, deliver family messages, and organize reunifications whenever possible.
In contexts like those of the DRC and Burundi, where conflicts cause prolonged separations, these initiatives allow many to reconnect with their families or receive reassuring news. Such efforts provide critical emotional support and strengthen the resilience of displaced communities.
