Description : Abas Nour, an 18-year-old participant in the physical rehabilitation program in Bangui, is practicing walking with his prosthetic leg.
In 2021, while traveling by bus between the cities of Bria and Bambari, Abas was caught in an ambush by an armed militia. The bus was set on fire, and he was shot in both legs. He also witnessed the tragedy of other passengers being killed.
Rescued from the bush, Abas was urgently transferred to Bambari hospital, where doctors had to amputate one of his legs. After a period of moving with crutches, he joined the treatment program at the ICRC's Physical Rehabilitation Center (PRP). Today, he is relearning to walk with a prosthesis, showing remarkable determination.
