Description :
The Red Cross of the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the support of the ICRC and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, is contributing to the response against this epidemic alongside the country's health authorities. In Bunia, one of the seven currently affected health zones, teams are conducting safe and dignified burials and organizing awareness sessions within communities.
On May 15, 2026, authorities declared a new outbreak of Ebola virus disease in several health zones in the Ituri Province, located in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The outbreak is unfolding in an already highly vulnerable region, where the healthcare system is weakened by a lack of personnel, supply challenges, and ongoing insecurity.
