Description :
Alberto Cairo, the head of the ICRC's orthopaedic programme in Afghanistan, and an ICRC physiotherapist listen to a paraplegic patient’s helper during a ward round. Each patient coming to the ICRC's orthopaedic Center is accompanied by a family member, or friend, who helps take care of the patient.
Up to 100 patients can be accomodated at any one time in the dormitories at the orthopaedic Centre whilst undergoing treatment. Of these, 20-30 may be paraplegics, both male and female.
