Description : It is essential for paraplegics to take exercise daily, so as to help the circulation of blood, and for the good functioning of the urinary system. In this photo, a relative is helping the man on the bed to do his arm exercises. The equipment that helps patients stand upright is made with a tray so that they can read or eat while standing. Many of the patients enjoy the standing exercise. Najmuddin, the director of the Kabul Ortho Centre, and himself a double amputee, says that when he stood up for the first time, after lying prone for a year in hospital, he felt that he was "50 metres tall".
