Description : By chance, the family came to know of the ICRC through their local mosque and her sister has been able to get physiotherapy treatment and home care for the young sister through the ICRC orthopaedic centre in Kabul. When the father died and her family fell on hard times, the big sister was in 7th grade at school. “I could not afford to keep her there any longer”, admits her mother, who is the family’s only breadwinner. But for her daughter, who is now 18, the world has taught her other things, and above all, wisdom - a talent perhaps more useful than learning to do sums. “Life has an easy side and a difficult one. It is both happy and sad,” she remarks, sitting on floor cushions in the family’s cramped, one-room home in Kabul surrounded by her six siblings. “We need to live through the difficult times to find the easy part.”
