Description : Abu has 11 family members he takes care of. He said “I hadn’t planted almonds for 30 years because of the increasing salinity of water in the soil, but I planted this improved quality of seedlings that tolerates salt water two years ago and has done well”. “I expect a good production this year too and hope to be able to sell the fruits despite the difficult general economic situation.”
In February 2016, the ICRC distributed improved quality of almond seedlings, tolerant to the increased water salinity in Gaza, to hundreds of farmers who have lands in the border area with Israel. ICRC staff visited two farmers two years after to see the outcome and the production of their trees at the same time when new farmers receive seedlings to plant.
