Description :
The Sada desalination plant supplies drinking water to the inhabitants of central and western Khan Younes.
It was 50% damaged by the conflict, which affected its full operational capacity. The ICRC and the water department of Gaza's coastal municipalities have been able to maintain the plant. The plant currently operates 5 hours a day, depending on the availability of fuel, and produces 25m3/h to serve more than 20,000 people. The water is supplied by filling points located close to the plant, from which returnees and internally displaced persons can benefit. The local authority's engineer explains: ‘With the return of residents to Khan Younes, water is an essential need and demand for the population. We can only run the plant for 5 hours a day, depending on the availability of fuel’.
