Description : Ponds like this one are particularly well stocked with fish. A dispute over fishing rights to these ponds led to armed violence between residents of the villages of Enyele and Monzaya; the violence later spread to other communities in the province.

Enyele and Monzaya are now relatively relative calm. The violence that occurred in 2009 included killings, the burning of homes and intimidation of civilians; it drove many people living in the area to seek refuge across the Ubangui river in the Likouala district of the Republic of the Congo. This flight of people took place in October 2009. According to government officials, nearly 115,000 people crossed the river.

Teams from the ICRC have been assisting the local population, displaced persons and returnees in Dongo - in the Democratic Republic of the Congo - since the outbreak of violence in 2009.
