Her son, Mamadou, was 20 years old when he disappeared in 2006. He was a fisherman and left in a pirogue from Casamance. Mamadou called his mother from Casamance to tell her he was leaving, but he never called back. He told her that he had to leave to have a decent future for his family. She has lost all hope that he is alive. Faousseuk lives together with 40 people in the same house. She produces and sells salt. She also sells detergent, soap, and cosmetics. Apart from Mamadou, she has five other children.

Description : Faousseuk says that leaving like that for Europe is not worth the risk because a lot of people get there and barely manage to survive, and then they don’t want to come back because of the shame of having failed. According to her, if they made the same efforts at home that they make to go there, they could have a decent life.
