Caption : Rumbek, Physical Rehabilitation Program center. This man holds a photograph that was taken before his leg was amputated five years ago as a result of a gunshot wound. He spent one year without a prosthesis until he visited the ICRC’s physical rehabilitation center. Description : The Physical Rehabilitation Program (PRP) in Rumbek was initially started by an American aid organization, Medical Care Development International (MCDI), in 2004. MCDI ended their project in 2010 and handed it over to the Government. The ICRC initiated support in 2013. In 2017, two full time delegates are working at the center, in addition to local staff. The PRP is run by the Government, with support from the ICRC. The ICRC supports the PRP with incentives for staff, training of local staff, support to build a new dormitory for the patients, expansion of the PRP center and food and water for the patients.
