This man (46) started working at the Physical Rehabilitation Program (PRP) center when the project started in 2004. “I was injured by a gunshot in 1998. The hospital was very far away and when I finally reached, they had to make an amputation. I had to spend many years with only crutches. My job here is to make the prosthesis, do the casting, fit it to the patient, make crutches, repair broken devises and fit the crutches. I feel 100 percent about the way I work here. I am happy that I am disabled, because it makes it possible for me to know exactly what areas that could hurt and how it feels like”, he says.

Description :
The Physical Rehabilitation Program (PRP) in Rumbek was initially started by an American aid organization, Medical Care Development International (MCDI), in 2004. MCDI ended their project in 2010 and handed it over to the Government. The ICRC initiated support in 2013. In 2017, two full time delegates are working at the center, in addition to local staff. The PRP is run by the Government, with support from the ICRC. The ICRC supports the PRP with incentives for staff, training of local staff, support to build a new dormitory for the patients, expansion of the PRP center and food and water for the patients.
