Description :
News release on the ICRC website, 02.09.2019 : "In the VRAEM region (Valle de los ríos Apurímac, Ene and Mantaro), communities are affected by the presence of armed groups. When we visit them, we carry out humanitarian monitoring, i.e. we talk to the authorities, education and health officials. In this way, we directly understand what the needs are.
In Peru, more than 30 districts in the Ayacucho, Cusco, Huancavelica and Junín regions are still in a state of emergency, a situation that has been going on every two months for years. Those living there are kept in vulnerable conditions due to the presence of armed groups, which can have an impact on both property and civilians themselves.
Therefore, with the authorization of the local populations, we transmit their concerns to the competent authorities.
Taking into account the needs of each community, we also support the development of essential projects such as the construction of water tanks and distribution networks, latrines, washbasins and the promotion of hygiene in schools."
