Description : Families in southern parts of Chin State continue to suffer consequences of armed conflict. Having fled their homes earlier this year, hundreds of families remain displaced, living in temporary sites in Samee, where poor living conditions, harsh weather, and uncertainty about the possibility of returning home have added hardship to their situation. Prevailing COVID-19 preventative measures and movement restrictions also mean that families find it a challenge to access basic services and nearby markets. Red Cross Society support

Red Cross teams first supported 728 families in the area in May 2020. Between November 17 and December 7, The ICRC and the Myanmar Red Cross Society returned there to support them.
“Our teams have just returned from Samee, we are pleased that we were able to assist all displaced families there, as well as install a 1.000 gallon water tank system at the Samee Hospital. We were also able to set up basic water treatment systems for the displaced people, which means they now have better quality water for drinking and cooking” explained David Hermann, Operations Coordinator for the ICRC in Myanmar. He added “This is our second trip to the area, alongside with the Myanmar Red Cross Society and we hope to return in a few weeks, taking advantage of the dry season, with additional support for the families there”.
