Description :
He had his first prosthetic fitted in 2018. He was schedule to replace his prosthetic in May, as his old one doesn't fit him well, but the centre was temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the preventative measures, the centre re-opened and he is the first in line.
The centre provide prosthesis for all people no matter the cause of their amputations. In this physical rehabilitation service, talented physiotherapists work together with Ministry of Health and Sports to achieve a common goal – to ensure that people with disabilities can regain mobility and participate fully in society like any other members of society. The young boy is one of many inspirations that has shown that age does not define strength but it’s a positive, open and winning attitude that helps overcome challenges.
Together with the orthopedic surgeons form the Myitkyina General Hospital, the centre runs a clubfeet program for children even younger than three-years old. Across Myanmar, even with COVID-19 preventive measures and restrictions, the ICRC worked with some 2,200 service users at different centres, assisting them with protheses, orthoses, walking aids, assistive devices and physiotherapy.
