Description :
Nour lives in the southern countryside of Aleppo, in the village of Tal Al-Daman. She has already lived a lifetime of challenges and was just eight months old when her life was turned upside down by the war and a devastating explosion ripped off her lower limb.
At the age of two, Nour's family turned to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) physical rehabilitation centre, where she received her first prosthesis. This prosthesis has enabled her to walk, run and play, activities that every child deserves to experience. The centre has become an essential part of Nour's life, a place where she returns regularly to receive new prostheses adapted to her growing body. ICRC staff recently met Nour and her mother at the centre. It was a long-awaited day, as Nour was about to receive a new prosthesis for the start of the school year. When she tried on her new prosthesis, her eyes lit up with joy: she walked across the room with a sense of pride and achievement. ‘I'm so happy to have a new prosthesis before the start of the school year,’ she exclaimed. ‘Without this prosthesis, Nour wouldn't be able to go to school,’ said her mother. ‘It's not just about walking, it's about her future, her education and her dreams.’
Nour loves mathematics and dreams of becoming a teacher one day. She is now in fourth grade and cannot wait to start the new school year, eager to walk to school with her siblings by her side.
