Description :
They are now working together with other displaced persons in a garden, where they are growing vegetables to feed their families and supplement their incomes.
This garden is part of a program co-organised by the Myanmar Red Cross Society and the ICRC, working on livelihoods projects for displaced people. As part of this project, the ICRC and the Myanmar Red Cross Society have collaborated to provide seeds, tools and fertilizers, as well as making regular visits to check on progress an help solve any problems.
In Kachin State, around 80,000 people have had to flee their houses during the outbreaks of violence, leaving homes and livelihoods behind. They now live in camps or are staying with relatives across the State. The ICRC and the Myanmar Red Cross Society work hand in hand with displaced families to identify activities.
This program is largely funded by the ICRC and carried out by Myanmar Red Cross Society volunteers.
