Description :
This man was 24 and a soldier in the army when he lost his leg to a landmine. He was sent with two friends to collect bamboo for construction work, but as they walked into the forest, his foot triggered a landmine explosion.
He now comes to he rehabilitation centre every year to have his prosthesis repaired and renewed. Thanks to his prosthesis, he can walk without crutches and works as a teacher in his home town.
The centre is run by the Myanmar Red Cross Society, with the financial and technical support of the ICRC.
In 2013, 60% of patients were landmine or unexploded devices victims. Since the Second World War, Myanmar has witnessed an accumulation of landmines and unexploded ordnance that has affected untold numbers of people.
