Description : To ensure services over the long term, the ICRC not only support training but also implement projects in close cooperation with local partners. Worldwide, the ICRC's physical rehabilitation programme provides support to over 163 centres in 48 countries. Hundreds of thousands of people have benefited from services such as the provision of prostheses, orthoses, wheelchairs and walking aids, physiotherapy, and follow-up (repairs and maintenance of devices).
In Cambodia, the ICRC works closely with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSVY) in support of the Battambang Regional Physical Rehabilitation Centre, the Kampong Speu Regional Physical Rehabilitation Centre and the Phnom Penh Orthopaedic component Factory since 1991. The factory now produces approximately 13,000 components for prostheses and ortheses as well as 4,300 pairs of walking aids which are supplied to 11 Cambodian physical rehabilitation centres and to the Faculty Orthopaedic Engineering.
Polypropylene was used to manufacture prosthetics and orthotics components.
