Description : “I’ve been working for 37 years at the Wau teaching hospital. I’m working with cleaning and messaging and I’m now the head of the messengers’ team. My work has become part of my life. This is my son. He is not always with me, but today he is sick. He is my only boy and he is the youngest of six siblings. All the others are girls”, she says.
The ICRC started working with the Wau teaching hospital in February 2017. The ICRC has renovated the operation theatre and improved access to water at the hospital. In April, a mobile surgical team started operating on war wounded patients and emergency cases coming in from across the region. Wau teaching hospital is one of the two only remaining teaching hospitals in South Sudan and is the referral center for a large number of primary health care centers in the region.
