Description :
From May 15 to June 15, 2026, the five hospitals supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross in North Kivu and South Kivu, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), recorded a total of 303 injured patients, representing an approximately 30% increase in admissions compared to the period from April 15 to May 14. While the Ebola outbreak present in these parts of the country demands heightened vigilance, the ICRC fears it may overshadow the still immense humanitarian needs of populations affected by armed conflicts and other situations of violence.
The hospitals supported by the ICRC are once again reporting bed occupancy rates nearing full capacity.
The hospitals in Bukavu, Uvira, and Fizi, in South Kivu, have treated 170 injured patients, accounting for 56% of the patients admitted to ICRC-supported facilities out of the 303, a sign of intensified hostilities in the Hauts Plateaux region.
