Hospitals supported by the ICRC are once again reporting bed occupancy rates nearing saturation.
From May 15 to June 15, 2026, the five hospitals supported by the ICRC in North Kivu and South Kivu, in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), recorded a total of 303 wounded patients, representing an approximately 30% increase in admissions compared to the period between April 15 and May 14. While the Ebola outbreak, present in these parts of the country, demands heightened vigilance, the ICRC fears it may overshadow the still immense humanitarian needs of populations affected by armed conflicts and other situations of violence.
The hospitals in Bukavu, Uvira, and Fizi, in South Kivu, treated 170 out of the 303 wounded patients, accounting for 56% of the admissions in ICRC-supported facilities, a sign of escalating hostilities in the Hauts Plateaux region.ted to ICRC-supported facilities out of the 303, a sign of intensified hostilities in the Hauts Plateaux region.
