Description :
The signing of a peace agreement in August 2005 between the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) armed group in Helsinki has opened a new chapter in Indonesia's history. For the Acehneses, however, prosperity is a long way to go. The ICRC is helping the Acehnese who survived three decades of armed conflict to rebuild their homes and their lives.
The ICRC works with the local authorities to rebuild the hamlet including rehabilitation of bridges and sanitation. In this hamlet the ICRC started distributing tarpaulins and construction tools to the villagers in February 2006.
