Description : The signing of a peace agreement in August 2005 between the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) armed group in Helsinki has opened a new chapter in Indonesia's history. For the Acehneses, however, prosperity is a long way to go. The ICRC is helping the Acehnese who survived three decades of armed conflict to rebuild their homes and their lives.

In Darussalam, villagers live in the tents only during the day when they come to the hamlet to tend their garden. At night, they usually stay at relatives' houses that were not damaged during the conflict.
