Description : Uncle Zaki has worked as a barber for over 50 years. He is now the oldest and most respected barber in Gaza. “I sometimes go to work at four in the morning because I love it so much. I feel the joy of every moment. I am happy when I groom children for the Eid holiday. When I shave a groom, I feel as if I am about to get married myself,” Uncle Zaki says.
People love Uncle Zaki. They say they often come to his shop to hear his stories and chat with him while getting a haircut. Every day, he takes his shaving kit and rides his bike to go to houses of disabled people to give them a haircut at home. The old barber riding his bike has become part of the cityscape of his native town of Dair Al Balah, a piece of local history and folklore.
