Description : This member of the ICRC's water and habitat program takes not of the needs of the affected communities. In addition to technical assessments, she provides support by listening to people's needs and their accounts of the disaster.
“We urgently need drinking water and some form of lighting to protect us from snakes and other dangerous creatures at night,” explains a community member living in a temporary shelter in Sagaing.
With daytime temperatures reaching 40° Celsius, access to drinking water is vital, especially as the already fragile infrastructure has been damaged. Residents also report that 30 people have died from snakebites since the earthquake. Many buildings are in ruins, making them difficult to see, especially at night.
