Description :
In addition to the written RCMs, since 2008, the ICRC has also facilitated over 3,100 video and phone calls between the detainees and their families. In the absence of face-to-face visits with their families, this type of contact is extremely important to both the detainees and their relatives. The written messages are censored by the authorities and the calls are strictly monitored, but they offer a chance to share family news.

On February 7, the ICRC completed its 100th visit to the United States detention facility at Guantanamo Bay Cuba, where its delegates have been monitoring the detainees' living conditions since 2002 in order to ensure that they are held and treated in accordance with international standards.
